Rotablator Rotational Atherectomy

A Rotablator is a piece of equipment that uses a diamond tipped drill to treat calcified blockages in the coronary arteries.

If required, this procedure is usually preformed prior to Coronary Artery Stenting.

Patients may be referred for this procedure when the coronary artery is heavily calcified and cannot be easily unblocked with balloon Angioplasty prior to Stenting.

This procedure is performed at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
